Wio Business: WPS Salary Payments Guide
Pay your employees seamlessly, compliantly, and securely through the Wages Protection System (WPS) directly from Wio Business on the Web.
? Overview & Eligibility
What is WPS?
The Wages Protection System (WPS) is an electronic salary transfer system mandated by the UAE government (under the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation – MOHRE and the Central Bank of the UAE) to ensure employees receive their wages accurately and on time.
Who Needs WPS?
Mainland Companies: Mandatory for all companies registered with MOHRE.
Free Zone Companies: Certain free zones (such as DMCC and JAFZA) mandate WPS. If you are registered in another free zone, please verify requirements with your specific licensing authority.
- Company in another free zone? → Check with your free zone licensing authority — WPS may not be required yet, but it's becoming mandatory across the UAE
- WPS not required for your setup? → You can continue paying salaries through regular bank transfers
? If you're unsure whether WPS applies to your business, contact your licensing authority directly for confirmation.

Which WPS Option Should You Choose?
Choose Option 1 (On-Screen Entry) if you have a small team, standard fixed salaries, and want to pay directly within 2 minutes without managing spreadsheet files.

? Step 2: Preparing and Submitting Salary Payments
Wio Business provides flexible ways to prepare and transfer salaries:
Method A: On-Screen Entry ("Pre-fill my payroll")
Recommended for businesses with up to 20 employees.
Go to WPS > Salary Transfer and click Start New Salary (or New Salary Transfer).
Choose Pre-fill my payroll.
Select the Payroll Month you are paying for.
Your employee list will appear automatically pre-populated with details fetched from MOHRE.
Review each employee's details (salary amount, IBAN, and bank routing code). Edit or add any missing payment details directly on the screen.
Click Confirm & Pay, review the summary, and enter the Passcode sent to your registered mobile/email.
Method B: Upload Salary File (.CSV)
Recommended for larger payrolls or companies using external HR/payroll systems.
Go to WPS > Salary Transfer and click Start New Salary.
Select Upload salary file.
Select the relevant Payroll Month.
On the Upload Your Salary File screen, choose one of the following:
Download pre-filled salary file: Downloads a template populated with your registered employee records.
Download empty salary file template: Downloads a blank CSV template formatted for manual entry or export from your HR software.
Fill in or adjust employee salaries, dates, and account details in the CSV file, then save it.
Upload your completed
.csvfile.The system will validate the file and show a preview of valid records and any discrepancies.
If there are salary mismatches (e.g., paid amount differs from MOHRE records), select a reason for each employee (or choose Set for all to apply one reason to multiple employees).
Click Confirm & Pay and enter the passcode to complete the submission.
? Tips for the Excel file:
- Download the sample template from the website for the correct format
- Save as .csv format only
- Amounts must include decimals (e.g.,
1000.00not1000) - Dates must use dashes, not slashes (e.g.,
2026-07-09not2026/07/09) - The time must not be in the future — use an earlier time than your current time
- If you exit mid-way, your progress is saved as a draft
How to Find and Update Your Employer ID
Finding Your Employer ID
Your Employer ID is a 13-digit number, also known as your Establishment Number or MOL ID. You can find it using one of the methods below:
Option 1: Check Your Establishment Card
Look for the Establishment Number on your company's labour card (Form 7).
Option 2: Use the MOHRE App
- Log in to the MOHRE app using UAE Pass or your registered mobile number.
- Go to My Establishments > Company Profile.
- Find the Company Code. This is your Employer ID.
? If your Employer ID has fewer than 13 digits, add zeros at the beginning until it reaches 13 digits.
Example:
- Company Code:
123456 - Employer ID:
0000000123456
Updating Your Employer ID
If you entered the wrong Employer ID during registration, you can update it anytime:
- Log in to the Wio Business website.
- Go to Salary Transfer.
- Select Edit Employer ID.
- Enter the correct Employer ID.
- Click Save.
? Still receiving an error after updating your Employer ID? Contact our support team and we'll be happy to help.
For DMCC-Registered Companies
If your company is registered with DMCC, your Employer ID should follow this format:
DMCC + your PIC/CEC number (with enough zeros added to make the total length 13 characters)
Example:
- CEC Number:
1234567 - Employer ID:
DMCC001234567
Employee IDs
- Employee IDs must be 14 digits long.
- If needed, add zeros at the beginning to reach 14 digits.
? What is a PIC/CEC number?
It is your employee identification number within DMCC. You can find it on your Company Employment Card or in the DMCC Member Portal.
? Step 3: Managing Multiple Companies (Multi-Company WPS)
If you manage multiple legal entities or MOHRE employer codes, you can process them all under one central Wio Business profile:
Adding an Additional Company
Go to the Salary Transfer page and click + Add Company.
Enter the authorized person’s Emirates ID and the company’s Establishment ID.
Select the Debit Account for this entity (you can pay all companies from one central account or assign separate sub-accounts to each).
Confirm registration.
Switching Between Companies
Navigate to the Salary Transfer page.
Click the dropdown in the Company name section to select the entity you want to manage.
The dashboard and records will automatically update to that company.
Updating Payment Accounts or Removing a Company
Change Payment Account: Under Company name, select Manage registrations, click the pencil (edit) icon next to the company, choose the new debit account, and click Update.
Remove / De-register: Under Manage registrations, click the delete (trash) icon. Ensure there are no pending or processing salary payments for that entity before removing.
? Step 4: Accessing Statements & Pay Slips
Once a salary file status moves to Transferred, you can generate and download official reports:
Open the WPS dashboard and click Reports.
Choose the report type you need:
Salary Slip: Generate individual employee pay slips for up to 24 months.
Employee Report: Detailed salary breakdown by employee for selected months.
Employer Report: Consolidated payment summary statement for your accounting and audit records.
Select the month range and employees, then click Get Pay slips / Get Report.
The requested reports will be generated and emailed as a PDF directly to the account owner’s registered email address.
⚙️ WPS File Processing Timelines & Payment Statuses
If your Wio Business account has multiple users with different roles:
- A preparer can create and submit the salary file for review
- An authorised person (account owner) can review, download, and approve or reject the file
- The authorised person reviews files from the Salary Transfer section on the website
Here's what happens after you submit:
Step | What Happens | Timeframe |
You submit | Your account is debited for the total salary amount + any fees | Immediately |
Processing | The file is sent to the Central Bank of the UAE | Within 24 hours |
Acknowledgment | Central Bank confirms receipt | Status shows "Transferred" |
Employees paid | Salaries arrive in employee bank accounts | Within 1 business day of acknowledgment |
What if a salary is returned?
Sometimes an individual salary payment can't be processed (e.g., employee's bank account is closed or IBAN is incorrect). If this happens:
- The affected amount is refunded to your Wio account
- You'll see the specific reason for each failed payment on the WPS dashboard
- The rest of the salaries in your file are processed normally
Understanding Payment Statuses:
Uploaded / Review Ready: Your file has been uploaded and passed initial formatting checks.
Pending Approval: Awaiting approval from the account owner or authorized approver.
Processing: The payment file has been submitted to the Central Bank clearing network.
Transferred: Success. Salaries have been accepted and dispatched to employee bank accounts.
Partially Reversed: Some employee accounts were credited successfully, but specific individual lines were returned (e.g., closed employee bank account or invalid IBAN).
Reversed / Failed: The batch could not be processed. Any deducted funds are refunded to your Wio account.

Registration
Where can I find my Employer ID?
- On your Establishment Card (Form 7) or in the MOHRE app under My Establishments → Company Profile.

- Add zeros at the beginning. For example:
123456becomes0000000123456.
I'm getting "We couldn't find any company linked to this Emirates ID" — what does this mean?
- The Emirates ID you entered doesn't match MOHRE's records. This should be the Emirates ID of the person who registered your company's employees with MOHRE (usually the owner). Check the MOHRE app → My Establishments → Company Profile for the correct details.

- Immediately upon submission. Make sure you have sufficient funds (salary amount + any fees) before submitting.

Can I register multiple Employer IDs on one Wio account?
- Each Employer ID can only be registered once. Duplicate registrations are not allowed.
How to Identify the Correct Routing Code?
- Each bank has a routing code that you'll need when entering employee bank details. Here's a quick way to verify:
- The 5th, 6th, and 7th digits of the employee's IBAN should match the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th digits of the routing code
- Example: If the IBAN is
AE11026000021572598→ the routing code should contain026(like3026120122)
- ? A full list of routing codes is available on the Wio website during the salary transfer process. If a bank has multiple routing codes, you can use any of them — just make sure it's for the correct bank.
