Topic Overview
The UAE Direct Debit System (UAEDDS) is a secure, automated payment service established by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE). It allows organizations and service providers to automatically collect recurring payments directly from your Wio Business AED account with your prior authorization.
Why Use Direct Debit?
Automated & Hassle-Free: Never miss a payment deadline or worry about manual transfers.
No Post-Dated Cheques: Replaces physical paper cheques with a seamless digital mandate.
One-Time Setup: Authorize once, and regular payments (such as loan instalments, utility bills, school tuition, or subscriptions) will be processed automatically.
Secure & Transparent: Full visibility over all active debits and payment schedules directly inside the Wio Business app.
How Direct Debit Works
A direct debit arrangement involves two key elements:
Direct Debit Authority (Mandate / Setup):
The initial agreement you sign with the merchant, service provider, or lending institution. It defines the recurring schedule, maximum/minimum amounts, start date, and end date.Direct Debit Request (Payment Claim):
The periodic payment request submitted by the originator’s bank to debit the agreed amount from your Wio Business account.
Important Currency Requirement: The UAEDDS exclusively supports transactions in UAE Dirhams (AED). Direct debits cannot be processed from foreign currency accounts.
How to View and Manage Your Direct Debits
Once a direct debit authority is established, you will receive an SMS and email notification confirming the details. You can track and manage all debits directly from your mobile application:
Step 1: Access Your Direct Debits
Log in to the Wio Business app.
Go to Payments.
Under Direct Debit, tap See All to view all active, processing, and completed direct debits.
Step 2: Assign a Nickname to a Direct Debit
To easily recognize your recurring payments (e.g., "Office Rent" or "DEWA Bill"):
From the Direct Debit list, tap on the specific direct debit.
Tap Edit.
Enter your preferred nickname and tap Update.
Step 3: Understand Your Direct Debit Statuses
Processing: The mandate is currently being verified and set up.
Active: The direct debit is active and ready for scheduled debits.
Next payment on [DD/MM/YYYY]: Displays the scheduled date for the upcoming payment claim.
In progress: A payment claim is currently being processed.
Completed: The scheduled payment has been successfully processed.
Rejected: A payment claim could not be processed (e.g., due to low balance or account restrictions).
Canceled: The direct debit mandate has been terminated.
How to Avoid Missed Payments and Protect Your Credit Score
Direct debit payments are processed from Monday to Saturday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Maintain Sufficient Balance
If your account balance is insufficient for an upcoming payment, Wio will send you a low-balance notification.
Please ensure your account is topped up before 3:00 PM on the payment date to allow the debit to go through smoothly.
Missed or rejected loan/financing debits may negatively impact your credit score.
How to Set Up Backup Payments from Saving Spaces
You can link your Flexi Saving Spaces as an automatic backup so that payments are completed even if your primary current account runs low.
How to Enable Backup Payments:
Log in to the Wio Business app and navigate to the product hub.
Select Send, scroll down, and tap Direct Debits.
Select the specific direct debit you want to protect.
Switch on the toggle for enable payments from Saving Spaces as your bank.
Read the prompt and complete the identity verification step to confirm.
Note: Backup payments can only be funded from Flexi Saving Spaces. Funds held in Fixed Saving Spaces or Etihad Guest Saving Spaces cannot be used for direct debit backups.
How to Amend or Cancel a Direct Debit
Amending a Direct Debit
If you need to change the payment amount, date, or frequency, contact the billing merchant or originating bank to update the mandate.
Once Wio receives the updated instructions, your future debits will reflect the changes.
Cancelling a Direct Debit
Utility, Subscriptions, and General Services: Contact the service provider/merchant directly to request cancellation, or provide a written request alongside your original signed mandate form.
Loans, Mortgages, and Financing: Because loan mandates are legally tied to credit facilities, cancellation requires prior written approval from the lending institution/initiating bank.
Direct Debits During Account Closure
Before closing your Wio Business account, you will be prompted in the app to review and cancel any active direct debits.
Eligible direct debits can be closed directly in the app.
Direct debits linked to loans or credit facilities must be cleared and closed with the originating lender before your Wio account can be fully closed.
Signing Authority Guidelines for Wio Business Accounts
Full Access Managers (FAM): While managers have extensive operational permissions, they cannot sign Direct Debit Authority (DDA) mandate forms. Mandates must be signed by an authorized signatory.
Joint Accounts (Single Authorization): Any authorized person with single signing power can sign and authorize the mandate independently.
Joint Accounts (Joint Authorization): All required authorized signatories must sign the mandate form in accordance with your company's board resolution or constitutional documents.
